Calabasas · San Fernando Valley
Live wedding painting in Calabasas.
Ranch venues, oak canopies, and long golden evenings.
The Calabasas and Agoura corridor is where a lot of LA's ranch weddings actually happen — big properties, oak trees, open sky, and receptions that run late because there are no neighbors to bother. Outdoor and long-running is the best possible setup for a live painting: the scene holds still, the light shifts slowly, and guests wander over between courses.

Worth knowing before you set a ceremony time
Heat and hard light
The Valley side of the hills runs genuinely hot — well into the 90s and above from June through September, a good 15°F hotter than Santa Monica on the same afternoon. Combined with hard, high sun, an outdoor setup needs shade to work at all. Under an oak or at the edge of the tent is perfect; the middle of a lawn at 3pm is not.
Calabasas wedding venues
Ranch properties vary enormously in access. The question worth asking early is how close a vehicle gets to the setup spot.
Malibou Lake Lodge
Lakeside lodge in Agoura with a rustic-formal feel. The water gives a painting depth that a lawn cannot.
Hummingbird Nest Ranch
Large estate ranch further north in Simi. Long internal drives, so it is worth confirming where we can park relative to where we are painting.
Saddle Peak Lodge
Dark timber interiors in the hills above Calabasas. Beautiful and low-light; the lamp is essential here.
Private Calabasas and Hidden Hills estates
Gated communities with their own vendor entry procedures. Getting Elena onto the gate list ahead of time prevents the most common day-of delay in this area.
Tented ranch receptions
Common across the corridor. Tent shade solves the heat problem and the light problem at once, which makes them easy to work in.
Planning notes for Calabasas
- Gate listsHidden Hills, Calabasas gated communities, and most private ranches require vendors to be pre-registered. Add Elena to the list when you add the caterer.
- Shade is non-negotiable outdoorsUnder the tent, under an oak, or under the eave of a building. Anywhere out of direct afternoon sun.
- Dust on unpaved propertiesWorking ranches are dusty, and dust in wet paint is real. We set up slightly off the main traffic path and keep the palette covered between passes — just tell us if the site is unpaved so we plan for it.

What you can book in Calabasas
Live Wedding Painting
6–8 hours · one finished canvas
Elena sets up at the edge of the room and paints the scene in front of her — the ceremony, the first dance, the toast. Guests watch it appear over the course of the night. The canvas leaves with you the same evening, dry and ready to hang.

4–6 hours · about 10 guests an hour
Guests stop by the table during cocktail hour, have a photo taken, and come back later to a loose watercolor portrait of themselves. Every guest leaves holding something nobody else has.
Learn moreWatercolor Silhouettes
4–6 hours · about 14 guests an hour
Profile portraits in the 18th-century tradition — guests sit against a lit cloth backdrop, and the silhouette is painted in watercolor from the shadow. Faster than full illustration, so it clears a bigger guest list.
