The Palos Verdes peninsula gives you something almost nothing else in LA does: an unobstructed western horizon over open water. For a painting that is the whole ballgame — the sky does half the work, and a ceremony timed against it produces a canvas that needs no help. It is also the windiest place we work, and that is worth planning around.

Worth knowing before you set a ceremony time
Wind is the real variable
Clifftop sites on the peninsula catch onshore wind that builds through the afternoon and peaks right around the hour most ceremonies start. A weighted easel and clipped paper are standard, so this is not a reason to change your plans — but for an exposed bluff setup we ask your coordinator for a sheltered fallback position, usually tucked against a building or a hedge line, still within sight of the ceremony.

Peninsula venues are almost all ocean-facing. Which side of the point you are on decides whether the sunset lands in frame.

Hilltop Spanish-revival venue looking back over the basin. The inland view paints differently from the ocean sites — city lights after dark.
Wayfarers Chapel
The landmark glass chapel has been dismantled for relocation following land movement on the site. Confirm current status directly with the chapel before planning around it.
Private peninsula estates
Bluff-edge homes with narrow driveways. Vehicle access near the setup is the thing to check first.
Planning notes for Palos Verdes
- Weighted setup as standardWeighted easel, clipped paper, and a low-profile palette. We plan for wind here rather than reacting to it.
- A sheltered fallback spotFor exposed bluff ceremonies we ask for a second position to retreat to if the wind is unusually strong. It is rarely needed, but agreeing it beforehand takes thirty seconds and removes a day-of decision.
- Salt spray on the cliffsClose to the edge on a big-swell day there is real salt in the air. We keep the canvas covered between passes and set up a few feet further back than you might expect.
